Entered the Brazilian Foreign Service through examinations, 1938, Rio. Vice-Consul in Calcutta (1940) and Shanghai (1940/42); Second Secretary of Embassy, Ankara (Turkey), 1944/47); Chargé d´Affaires in Nanking, China (1947/49). Chargé d´Affaires San José de Costa Rica (1951); First Secretary, Embassy in Ottawa (1952); Assistant to Brazilian Mission to UN, New York (1953/56); Member of Delegation to the General Assemblies, Security Council and Economic and Social Council, same years. Counsellor of Embassy, 1956. Head of Cultural Department, Ministry of External Relations, Rio, 1956/59. Head of Brazilian Delegation to General Conference, UNESCO, Paris, 1958. Minister Second-Class, 1959. Consul-General in Zürich (1960/63). First Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria (1964/65). Assistant Secretary-General for Planning, ad interim, (1965), Assistant Secretary-General for Eastern Europe and Asia (1966/67). Minister First Class (1966).
